FAVANA FOODS is a newly created spin off enterprise from three companies that are part of the Spanish Agrofood value chain. Favana Foods seeks to introduce to the market more sustainable proteins from local harvested pulses. Our attempt is to grow the best Mediterranean pulses from a nutritional and organoleptic perspective to produce vegetable proteins and starches to be included in food and nutra applications

    The continuous growth of the world population creates an increasing pressure to meet the food requirements. The current world population of 7 billion is expected to reach 10 billion in 2050. Over 50% of food will be needed to feed the future population. To ensure global food security, intensifying animal production will not be enough to keep up with population growth. This is directing interest toward a variety of alternative solutions and there is no doubt that this necessity will require sustainable sources

    Unfortunately, soy protein is not sustainable for Europeans, even though soy has good functional properties it is not a feasible crop to produce in Europe. On the good side, we have multiple pulses that are harvested locally that are more sustainable and healthier for us! We are a substitute for soy protein and we are the best option for the companies who really believe in making a better world by using sustainable proteins.

    Faba beans are emerging as sustainable quality plant protein sources, with the potential to help meet the growing global demand for more nutritious and healthy foods and for this reason, FAVANA FOODS will start working with faba beans to produce protein, starch and texturized solutions.

    Faba bean is a pulse of interest as it can perform better environmentally than other legumes. It is a promising alternative to animal-based protein and is one of four crops identified in the EU Smart Protein project. In addition, it is a super ingredient for trendy diets such as: vegetarians, vegan and flexitarians.

content, combined with its agronomic features, makes it an ‘up-and-coming’ product that
could be used to meet the shifting trends toward healthy eating, environmental
consciousness and is helpful for future food overpopulation demand.

    FAVANA Faba protein F is a clean label ingredient with 65% of protein content. This ingredient offers an excellent amino acid profile, similar to pea protein.

Where is
Favana Foods?

Favana Foods was born and developed entirely in the province of Girona, in the municipality of Quart.

Girona is one of the few Spanish cities that has the great privilege of having the sea, as it is on the shores of the Mediterranean with the Costa Brava, and mountains in its province, very close to the Pyrenees.

With its own plantation land and a production plant under development, Favana Foods has become a pioneering company in the whole of Spain
